How to use rubs

Good seasoning does not need to be complicated

Start with a light coat of oil if the food needs help holding seasoning. Dust the rub evenly, give it time to sit, then cook as normal.

Wings, thighs, ribs and pork shoulder can handle a heavier coating. Steak, fish, prawns and veg usually need a lighter touch. For traybakes, toss everything together before cooking so the seasoning hits the meat, veg and potatoes.

Cooking method

Built for fire, useful everywhere

Smokey Rebel rubs are made for BBQ, but they earn their space in the kitchen too.

BBQ and grilling

Use Wingman, Cherry Force, Hickory Hog, Revolution and SPG for wings, ribs, burgers, steak and charcoal cooks.

Oven and traybakes

Use Chipotle Cowboy, Greek Odyssey, Asado Roast Rub or SPG with chicken, potatoes, onions, peppers and veg.

Air fryer meals

Use Wingman, Miami Mojo, SPG or Holy Jalapeño for quick chicken, chips, veg and weeknight dinners.

Tacos, bowls and wraps

Use Al Pastor, Holy Jalapeño, Miami Mojo or Greek Odyssey for fast dinners with more flavour than a packet mix.

Seasonings FAQ

Questions before you choose?

A few straight answers to help you pick the right rub, size and flavour.

What is the difference between a rub and a seasoning?

Most customers use the words interchangeably. A rub is usually applied to meat before cooking, while a seasoning can be used more broadly on meat, veg, chips, eggs, sauces and traybakes.

Which Smokey Rebel flavour should I buy first?

SPG is the safest everyday starting point. Wingman is best for wings and chicken. Hickory Hog is the pork route. Revolution is the beef route. Al Pastor and Holy Jalapeño are best for tacos, fajitas and bowls.

Are these seasonings only for BBQ?

No. They work on the BBQ, but they are also useful in the oven, air fryer, pan, slow cooker and grill. The easiest wins are traybakes, chicken thighs, chips, roasted veg and rice bowls.

Should I buy mini cans or classic cans?

Mini cans are best for trying flavours or gifting. Classic cans are better if you already cook regularly and want full-size cans on the shelf.

When should I buy maxi tubs?

Buy maxi tubs when you already have a favourite flavour and use it often. They suit heavy home cooks, BBQ teams, catering, events and regular batch cooking.

Can I build my own classic can bundle?

Yes, but classic can bundles should be 4 to 7 cans. That keeps the range useful for the customer and makes sense with the packaging involved.

Which flavours are best if I do not like spicy food?

SPG, Greek Odyssey, Asado Roast Rub and Miami Mojo are good starting points if you want big flavour without pushing chilli heat too far.
