Why it matters

Charcoal should not be an afterthought

You can buy great meat, season it properly, set up the perfect cook and still let yourself down with poor fuel. Charcoal affects heat, burn quality, flavour and the story behind your BBQ.

Provenance

Know where your fuel comes from

British charcoal gives customers a clearer route to local sourcing, shorter supply chains and better traceability.

Woodlands

Support working British woods

Well-managed woodland needs a market. Choosing British fuel helps support the people doing that work properly.

Cooking

Built for flavour-first BBQ

Good lumpwood charcoal should light well, burn cleanly and let the food, rubs and fire do their job.

Community

Help us choose better

This beta list gives us real cooking feedback before we scale the range across the site.

Local fuel, better story

A better bag starts before the BBQ

We want to stock charcoal that fits how Smokey Rebel customers actually cook: proper heat, proper flavour and proper values.

This launch is about testing a product with the people who care enough to notice the difference. If you cook over fire, use a kamado, run a fire pit, cook on a kettle BBQ or love live-fire food, this beta list is for you.

The choice

British charcoal vs generic BBQ fuel

Not every bag of charcoal tells you enough. We want this range to be clearer, more useful and more aligned with the way our customers cook.

Generic imported charcoal

  • Often sold mainly on price and convenience.
  • Limited information about wood source or production method.
  • Can involve long transport routes before reaching your BBQ.
  • Harder for customers to connect the product to local woodland support.

British charcoal

  • Clearer local-first story and stronger provenance.
  • Supports British woodland producers and responsible management.
  • A better fit for BBQ customers who care about what they burn.
  • Gives Smokey Rebel a fuel range with more depth than a basic commodity product.
How beta access works

Join, cook, tell us what you think

We’re using this launch to get the product into the hands of real customers first. Your feedback helps us decide how far we take the range.

Join the British charcoal beta list and we’ll keep you updated before stock goes live.

Get early access

The first 50 beta customers will get access to a thank-you offer of up to 30% off.

Cook with it

Use it on your kettle BBQ, kamado, fire pit or live-fire setup and put it through a proper cook.

Send feedback

Tell us how it lights, burns, cooks and compares to what you usually use.

Part of the tribe

This is how better products get built

Smokey Rebel has always been shaped by people who cook, taste, test and care. The British charcoal beta list is another way to bring customers into the process before we make bigger decisions.

You are not just signing up for a launch code. You are helping us work out whether this deserves a permanent place in the Rebel supply drop.

What we want to learn

  • How easily it lights compared with your usual charcoal.
  • How steady the heat feels during real cooks.
  • How it performs across BBQs, kamados and fire pits.
  • Whether the bag size and price feel right.
  • What you would want us to stock next.

British charcoal FAQ

Questions before you join?

A few straight answers before we open the beta list properly.

What is British charcoal?

British charcoal is charcoal made from wood sourced and produced in Britain. For this Smokey Rebel beta launch, we’re looking for fuel that fits our standards on cooking performance, provenance and sustainability.

Why choose British charcoal for BBQ?

British charcoal can offer a stronger local sourcing story, support British woodland producers and give customers more confidence about where their BBQ fuel comes from.

Is this a discount sale?

No. The beta offer is a thank-you for the first 50 customers who join early, try the charcoal and help us gather feedback before we scale the range.

How much can beta customers save?

The first 50 beta customers will be offered up to 30% off when the product is ready. Final details will be shared by email before launch.

What BBQs can I use it with?

British lumpwood charcoal is ideal for charcoal BBQs, kettle grills, kamados, fire pits and live-fire cooking setups. Always follow the instructions for your specific cooker.

When will the charcoal be available?

We’re building the beta list ahead of launch. Sign up and we’ll let you know when stock is ready, how the early access works and how to claim the beta offer.

Will you stock more British fuel products later?

That depends on customer feedback. If the beta launch goes well, we’ll look at expanding the range with more fuel options that fit Smokey Rebel customers.
