The Hornbeam No. 12 Cast Iron Skillet is made for cooking with intent.

This is the larger Hornbeam skillet, built for the meals where the pan matters as much as the recipe. Use it for a whole spatchcock chicken, a tray’s worth of roast potatoes, a deep focaccia, a big skillet breakfast, smashed burgers, steak night sides, roasted veg, cornbread, pies, braises and food cooked properly over fire.

It works indoors and outdoors, moving from hob to oven, BBQ to open fire, without fuss. That makes it a natural fit for Smokey Rebel customers who cook wherever the flavour takes them.

The No. 12 has a generous cooking surface that gives you room to build colour, create crust and cook enough for the table without overcrowding the pan. It’s bigger and heavier than the No. 10, so it’s best suited to family cooking, batch cooking, weekend hosting and outdoor cooks who want proper cast iron performance.

It arrives pre-seasoned with a golden finish that darkens with use. The more you cook with it, the better the surface becomes, building a natural non-stick layer over time.

The golden finish will darken with use, which is exactly what should happen. To build the seasoning quickly, cook with oil and use steady heat. Baking in the pan is a great way to develop an even surface, so roast potatoes, focaccia, cornbread, skillet bakes and deep dish pizza are all good places to start. Wash with warm water and soap if needed, but never put cast iron in the dishwasher and don’t leave it soaking. Dry it properly after washing, then wipe with a very light layer of oil before storing.
